Welcome to SIMS - Southern Illawarra Men's Shed - Oak Flats

Enter the SIMS workshop and you will see members engaged in personal and group projects in a dynamic environment. They are using equipment and machinery more suited to a light industry than a home workshop.

Interaction between members is encouraged during breaks where there is time to have a cuppa and a chat.  Men of all skill levels are welcome to learn new skills or pass on their own skills to other members.

What are Men's Sheds?

Men are often reluctant to talk about their physical and mental health and can suffer from social isolation particularly following retirement, retrenchment or relationship breakdown. Good health is based on a number of factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive, contributing to the community, connecting with friends and maintaining an active body and mind. Men's Sheds provide a safe and busy environment where they can find many of these things in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.

When was SIMS opened?

The establishment of a Men's Shed in our community was first mooted in late 2017. A steering committee was established in 2018 with construction starting in 2020 through 2021 in a storage facility provided by Warrigal. Our Men's Shed was formally opened on 1 February 2022. Our journey...

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 

8:00 am to 3:00 pm

New Memberships Suspended

Currently, new membership applications are suspended until February 2027 as the workshop is running at capacity each day.
