Welcome to SIMS - Southern Illawarra Men's Shed
SIMS is a not for profit community organisation that promotes the health and wellbeing of men providing opportunties for them to share time together, swap yarns and work together on personal or community projects.
Our shed is a friendly and relaxed place with plenty of time for a cuppa and a chat with other members. Men of all skill levels are welcome to learn new skills or pass on their own skills to other members.
What are Men's Sheds?
Men are often reluctant to talk about their physical and mental health and can suffer from social isolation particularly following retirement, retrenchment or relationship breakdown. Good health is based on a number of factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive, contributing to the community, connecting with friends and maintaining an active body and mind. Men's Sheds provide a safe and busy environment where they can find many of these things in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.
When was SIMS opened?
The establishment of a Men's Shed in our community was first mooted in late 2017. A steering committee was established in 2018 with construction starting in 2020 through 2021 in a storage facilty provided by Warrigal. Our Men's Shed was formally opened on 1 February 2022. Our journey...
